In Their Own Words

Conway and the National Archives

For this exploration of personal letters held by The National Archive, the brief was to keep it simple and utilitarian. The book displays letters, hand-written or typed, alongside transcripts where necessary. In these cases I set the transcript in such a way that they mirrored the layout and spirit of the original letter. I used American Typewriter, to reflect a tradition of letter-writing, and Helvetica, that archetypically discreet typeface, with one colour throughout, to suggest the faded tone of old paper.Â
